JAVTalk goes down / update

Just as I was putting together a post at around 18:10 GMT today (29 June) JAVTalk becomes inaccessible.

Then, we had the whole server trouble which caused a little trouble for us - and now we obviously have a new server. The new server is a little different, and hasn't been operating according to our standards.

We aren't 100% sure what the problem is, maybe it's the web server or maybe it's RAID or who knows what - but rest assured we're getting to the bottom of it, and giving the server a complete overhaul right now. So unfortunately big measures need to be taken, however they are necessary...

I feel bad for John because the servers have been such a pain in the ass the past few months. They really do seem to be plagued by problems. Hope they're back soon.

Update: They were back up after a few hours of being down. Hope they got the bugs out of the system.

Managing a server like that,

Managing a server like that, with hundreds of users on simultaneously, isn't the easiest thing to do but it isn't even rocket science. JavTalk has demonstrated to do a pretty bad and clueless job, recently. The key is caching, caching, caching like there's no tomorrow, daily back-ups on reliable hardware (to another machine or to an external service) to alleviate terrible fuck-ups, get rid of forum useless features, etc... Same old stuff, really.

Wow, there are some really

Wow, there are some really ungrateful comments considering the amount of free content that JavTalk has provided over the years. I remember the days before JAVTalk when I had to pay an arm and a leg to get JAVs, worry about Customs inspecting my packages and could only get what I could afford. Now, I'm able to sample pretty much anything I want. If I have to put up with some server disruptions, that's totally fine with me.

hello ,john ,i think you shuold think about the other software ,i'd saw so many web server software ,and i running someone (small one ,our owen bbs),it was very friendly and easy ,and the other point is it was free soft,you need't paid for anybody ,just reserver their informattions .
